  1. It was never a choice. It was inevitability. The orchestra of car horns, and revving engines, the perfume of exhausts, and mass of people with somewhere to go—it all created fireworks inside her—a cacophony of colour and iridescence that her previous life had lacked. Her heels click clacking along the pavement towards her new office quickened as she thought of her shiny new position. A solitaire diamonddd ring in a window caught her eye and for a moment, she paused; her lip quivered almost imperceptibly, ‘His diamond was much smaller’, she persuaded herself, then continued on her way.

    The Selfish Samsara
    Ma,
Often, I think of those days back in Kol. The stench, squalor, smokes all around, made life hell!
I’m surprised that I could get a scholarship to my dream destination!
Don’t worry. I’m working part-time at KEE Photo Lab located in a busy part of the city with modern buildings and heavy traffic. The Manager’s let me stay at the back. This way I’m saving the house-rent. The evening meal is free.
I wish I could help when you’re going through such a hard time! I’ll repay the debts once I’ve the degree and a better job.
    Take care.

  3. THE PICTURE AS IT IS

From a distance, the bushy canopy that overtook the left side of the black and white picture looked like a mushroom cloud.

Author Adam Averson then imagined people fleeing for their lives.

He tried to formulate a story of survival, people who lived near the area of impact, Eric Street, banding together in the face of tragedy.

“But, that’s not how the world works,” Adam thought.

Then, he saw the picture as it is: a place where people worked and provided for their families.

“That’s better. It’s genuine,” Adam said.

He never saw the monster eyes peering from the tree.

    One-way Street

“It’s a one-way street…” His voice was even but with an unexpected tremble. “There won’t be another chance.”
“I know. ” She said after a pause. “I’ve lived here for… like forever.”
    “There’s still time–”
“No!” She cut him short quickly. “There was, once, time. Not anymore.”
“There’s always time.” He almost whispered.
    “Three minutes.”
“What?” He looked up, hopeful but she was staring at her phone. Then, she smiled weakly. “Uber’s just around the corner. I must go now.”
The cab can wait, he wanted to say but she had read his mind.
    “It’s a one-way street, like you said.”
