We nominate for awards, including Best of The Net. All submissions are considered for publication online and in our print mag.

Alternatively, we also have a New Submission Form for 100 Word Stories. With this in mind, submit only one story per month via the form. However, we encourage you to participate weekly on our blog in addition to one monthly submission.

On the first Wednesday of each month, we publish 2 selected 100 Word Stories (1 from submissions and 1 entry from the 100 Word Wednesday weekly prompts on the blog.)

Read other entries and comment on others. Lastly, this is a positive forum for feedback!

  1. So, you stored music on this? In the day.
    Yes.
    And it’s called?
    A cassette.
-ette. Implies small. But it’s gigantic.
Your French is better than your pop culture.
    Try ancient history.
Touché. They were used to curate a bespoke arrangement for a loved one. Called a mixtape.
    Sounds a bit patriarchal.
    Meant to be romantic.
What did it hold about 1000 songs?
    Try 12.
    Barbaric.
Sometimes the tape would jam and spill out in a loop. You had to rewind it with a pencil. You do know what a pencil is?
Honestly, I don’t know how you people survived.

  2. Calling My Wife From the Dark Beach

I told you, she tossed the white cassette tape like snow, like salt! Yes, right over her bare shoulder. No, I don’t think she was aiming for the sea. Or for me. I was just walking by with a whiskey, and I saw her throw it at the edge of the water. Yes, I saw the boy run after it. No, I’m not sure that it was her child. Seven, maybe eight. I don’t know why I waited to run in. It was 3 a.m. Yes, I’m sure I lost them. I never had them. Honey, I lost them.

  3. Rewind

“Dad, you still have this?” My son frowned at a music cassette tape, flipping it over and over.
“Yeah, buddy. This is a time-capsule for mum and me.”
    “Can we play it?”
“Not anymore. At least not without an old cassette player.”
    He nodded thoughtfully.
“You know,” I said. “We rewound it manually. Not like jumping between among songs at will.”
    “Must be painful–”
“Perhaps, but it was the only thing we had. I must say though, rewinding it manually made us rework and revisit things.”
    “Like relationships?”
“Yeah, unlike the pause, skip, and jump to a new one instantly!”
