Arabella
After Rory and Mabel disappeared, I took in their dog, Arabella. All day, the poor baby paces at my front gate, paws and head through the slats, desperate to run down to the lake. When I finally open the gate, she races straight to the lake’s edge, cries and sniffs and digs at the dirt, as if she’s trying to burrow beneath the lake itself. She never goes in the water, which is real strange. She was always in the lake with the twins, swimming and exploring right beside them, but now, she won’t put a paw in the water.
