as much as you and I knew
we needed and wanted
our eyes never met
limitations set and settled from just about birth,
lessened and loosened in years of exploring difference:
the earth grew rounder still, the universe beautiful
Of course there’s beauty in the distant stars,
and far-off lands, and ocean deeps – but look
at what’s appearing from this pavement crack.
